Journey Through Croatia

We had to cancel a trip at the last minute in October 2023 and were able to pivot and get a trip organized to Croatia with a week’s notice!  Even though most people tend to visit the Dalmation Coast in the summer, we found that it was quieter with less crowds in October.  We thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful country and its deep, rich history!

Dubrovnik

Hotel Excelsior

  • This is a really nice hotel 10 minutes walk outside the city gates with a beautiful view of the city.  It has a great waterfront for swimming in the Adriatic Sea.

Be sure to walk through the city for a  sunset drink at Buza Bar

  • fantastic setting with people jumping off the cliffs into the sea!

Proto

  • Delicious dinner in a very cool setting.  Be sure to request a table upstairs on the loggia.

Do not miss a walk around the city wall- incredible views and experience

Split

Judita Heritage Hotel

  • This small hotel has an amazing location, right in the center of town.  You are not able to drive up to the door, but the darling staff will meet you at the taxi stand and escort you to the hotel through the little alleys of the city.

  • Andy, the manager and “Mayor of Split” has the best recommendations and contacts all over town and will take the best care of you!  He truly made our experience in Split unforgettable!

Restaurants:

Bokamorra

  • delicious pizza with a super cool vibe and staff, right on the waterfront

Bokeria

  • Delicious food with a cool scene

Villa Spiza

  • Andy sent us here for lunch after our tour and it was perfect.

  • Very local- they do not take reservations, so arrive close to opening time.  We sat at the counter and watched our lunch being prepared.

If you are not going out to one of the islands for a night (like Hvar), be sure to charter a boat for the day to explore.  We stopped at several little islands and walked around the towns.  In warm weather, you can stop in a beautiful cove for a swim.

  • We stopped at: Brac-Milna, Solta Maslinica and Stomorska for a delicious fresh fish lunch, right on the marina.

We had a fabulous tour guide for half day to give us the history of Diocletian’s Palace

Plitvice National Park

  • This was an added bonus on our trip, but a full day trip with a 3 hour drive.  We left Split at 9:00am, arrived around noon for a 3 hour walk through the park, then continued for 3 more hours back to the coast (further north).  A long day, but definitely worth it!

Rovinj

  • This is a beautiful town in Istria, with a huge Italian influence, being only 1.5 hours from the Italian border.

Hotel Grand Park

  • Luxury hotel with lots of amenities.  Spa, gym, pool, bikes for rent, etc.. in a gorgeous setting on the Marina facing the historic town.

Giannino

  • Delicious, local and charming staff.
